May is a quiet reminder of how much we rely on water every single day. From the pipes beneath our streets to the blooms in our backyards, each week brings a new opportunity to notice, appreciate, and care for the systems and people that keep water moving through our lives.

All Month Long – California Water Awareness Month. Water keeps our communities healthy, supports local jobs, and sustains the landscapes we love. Throughout May, it’s about recognizing that every drop has a purpose—and every effort to use it wisely matters.

May 17–23 – National Public Works Week. Behind the scenes, dedicated public works professionals are out there every day—maintaining pipelines, ensuring water quality, and keeping systems running smoothly. This year’s theme, “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community,” reflects the people who make reliable water possible, often without us even noticing.

May 18–22 – Infrastructure Week. Mid-month shines a light on the bigger picture. Infrastructure Week highlights the importance of continued investment in the systems we depend on—like water infrastructure that delivers safe, reliable water to homes and businesses. It’s a reminder that planning today keeps our communities strong tomorrow.

May 30 – Water a Flower Day. This is the perfect time to check your irrigation system for leaks or inefficiencies—small fixes that can make a big difference in saving water.

From appreciation to action, May tells a story of connection—between people, infrastructure, and the water that sustains us all.
