The driest year on record in California has left dwindling streams, meager snowpack in the Sierra Nevada and many reservoirs across the state less than half full. The deepening drought has already prompted some Northern Californiawateragencies to adopt stronger conservation measures and is likely to sharply curtail the amounts of water flowing through canals and pipelines to Southern California this year.
