Most of us have a lot more time at home lately. Many people have used this time to start up a garden. It’s a great time of year to try growing fruits, vegetables and herbs, which could eventually save you some trips to the store. Although in most places spring is the best time to plant, that isn’t the case here due to our warmer weather. While fall is the best planting season, there are a few things that can thrive in the spring.
Some things that grow well in our desert in spring:
- Tomatoes
- Legumes (beans)
- Strawberries
- Cucumbers
- Peppers
- Eggplant
- Zucchini
- Squash
- Cilantro
Even in summer there are some plants that may survive the heat:
- Corn
- Okra
- Rosemary
You could also consider planting a citrus tree – oranges, lemons, limes and grapefruit all do very well in our desert.
Happy planting!
