On March 28, 2017, CV Water Counts, in conjunction with UCR-Palm Desert and CVEP, hosted Water Counts 2017: How the Drought Changed California and Our Valley.

The program featured individual expert updates from:

  • Erik Ekdahl of the California State Water Resources Control Board who provided an update on extending the emergency drought regulation and long-term conservation policies under consideration.
  • Kathleen Tiegs of the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) who discussed how water agencies across the state were impacted by the drought and regulations, and what agencies hope to see going forward.
  • Michelle Sneed of the U.S. Geological Survey who gave an overview of the Coachella Valley’s aquifer characteristics, conditions and trends.
