Tree Bear Grass, or Nolina Matapensis, has long, straplike leaves that are glossy green, giving it a lush appearance. The edges are sharp, so take care when planting and maintaining. Eventually, it forms a trunk, with mature plants reaching 12 to 15 feet high, spreading to 6 feet wide, but most plants are mounding to 6 feet high. Flowers are white plumes blooming on stalks well above the leaves in late spring and summer. It accepts heat and some shade. It is native to Mexico. The canopy coverage is approximately 28 feet.
