Where does drinking water come from in the Coachella Valley? Well, our drinking water comes from a natural groundwater basin, also known as an aquifer. If you take a closer look at an aquifer, it would look like wet sand and gravel in an underground basin with layers. Sand and gravel allow water to fill the spaces between the sand particles underneath a clay layer.
