Saturday, April 22 is Earth Day. It is a great opportunity to think about how you can be more sustainable and encourage others do the same. Being water wise is a great contribution. Not only are you protecting a precious resource, you are also reducing energy with each drop you save!
Here in the Coachella Valley, the vast majority of tap water is pumped from underground. These wells require a lot of energy. Water agencies work with local power utilities to perform tests on pumps and motors to maximize efficiency. Newer, more efficient wells are usually the ones that water districts run more. Some agencies have solar panels and other renewable power, but wells require a great deal of power and well sites are not big enough to accommodate enough panels.
Even though we do our best to go green and be efficient, water conserved is the best way for our community to save. That’s why many agencies encourage their customers to remove unused grass, put in efficient irrigation timers and nozzles, and to use efficient appliances and fixtures.
